Pros: Tap water was already purified (nice!), Good layout, comfy bed, clean, good location on beach, welcome basket with snacks & fruit was a great touch
Cons: Doesn't face the ocean so there's not much breeze (a/c works fine if you're ok with that), needs a small couch and an actual dining table.
Tips (for anywhere in Quintana Roo): 1. Take the collectivos for $25MX/ride. Its easier than you think. 2. Don't ever, ever leave dirty dishes out you'll get ants immediately. If you don't want to do dishes right away put them in soapy water. (This has been for every place we've stayed.) 3. Get up one morning for the sunrise. 4. Donate to a local library. 5. Rent a bike instead of a car for your stay. WAY more fun. WAY less money. 6. Spend a day at Yal Ku Kai Lagoon. 7. White? Wear sunblock. Even in the shade.

The room was called a "casita" which means a small house. What it really was was a moldy basement unit without windows. No beach breeze- no cross ventilation- not even a well functioning air conditioner. I would not rent it again and would not recommend it for anyone who has any concern for mold and mildew. The staff was very friendly and helpful although when they went home at 5, should there be any emergency, etc. - you were on your own. My cell phone did not work at the location either.

We spent 8 days in casita "Maria". This room was fantastic in almost every way, with a couple of minor cautions I will detail below.
The room is very comfortable, and kept very clean. The beds are firm, which we liked. Water temperature and pressure in the shower was great. Towels were plentiful, thick and clean. The TV was DirectTV, but very few channels came in (note, we did not try and fix this or report to management, so it might be a simple fix). The dining room table was two person and very tall. Our two year old could not eat with us, as they provided stools instead of chairs to match the height of this table.
The kitchen is fully outfitted. The pots, pans and knives are better than I use at home, although the four burner stove is electric. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, cooler, waffle iron, blender, microwave and even a welcoming fruit basket. No stove, but they will set up an outdoor grill for you on request.
We did not make many demands upon the management, but from watching the manager dealing with others I was impressed by how efficient and professional they were. Snorkels and life jackets are available upon request, and bikes are available for rent.
The beach behind the condo is half-moon bay. This beach had great sand for my kid to play in, but had a very rocky water entry (wish I brought water shoes) and a band of seaweed washed up on the shore between the sand and surf. Snorkeling was pretty good, but I recommend walking down to either end of the bay to reach the coral from a more sheltered access. Still, I did find a giant stingray and some sea turtles right offshore from the condo.
The neighborhood can't be beat. A very quite street, with an expensive but convenient grocery a couple of hundred feet away. Akumal beach and Yal-Ku lagoon are a long walk away (we drove to both). Many good restaurants within waking distance.
To recap- first rate for us in almost every way.

This place was wonderful. We opted for the lower cost studio so that we could stay longer. We spent our time at the beach and ruins etc. If you are not planning on doing that sort of stuff, you will want a bigger condo with a view and amenities. This was utilitarian in a great location. The snorkeling off our beach was wonderful and it was a doable walk to Akumal Bay and the village even for our 4 year old. The only drawback to the studio was that it did not have internet in the room. We had to go to the pool area or shared patio for internet.

We have stayed at Playa Caribe Casitas FIVE times ...the care of the beach has declined with each visit, especially in comparison with other properties up and down Half Moon Bay. No efforts are made to "rake or clean" the beach, whereas other operators do so ...this makes the immediate beach area in front of Playa Caribe much less enjoyable ...BTW, this was a non-issue during our first three visits. Housekeeping is A-OK, casitas are in very good condition.
