Comments about LocoGringo Yal Ku Cai Casita:
We stayed in the Casita at Yal Ku Cai. This has to be the best kept secret in Akumal. For $70/night you get a very comfortable king sized bed (with soft sheets!), dining area, full kitchen, living room with tv, access to a BBQ and a pool, maid service, walking distance to the lagoon, with the sound and view of the ocean right nearby. The managers, Caludia and JP, were great: helpful and friendly. All the staff was. Only two things to be aware of: the internet access is iffy at its very best. Basically if you need to have reliable access, this is not the place. Also, though it is right next to the ocean, the beach at this spot is absolutely not swimmable. It is all rock, and not the kind you can sit on. All in all I would give it 4.5 stars (.25 off for the misleading claim that there is wifi. Wifi in theory, yes, but not really. And .25 off for location--I would have loved to have been right on a swimmable beach. I didn't know to ask about that.)
Comments about LocoGringo Yal Ku Cai Casita:
The casita was wonderful! The kitchen was very well equipped and perfect for a couple who want to cook their own food. Its an open concept setup, but with the pool right outside the door it felt like having another room to be in. The only con regarding this casita is its distance from the center of town and the main beach – but that was easily solved by renting bicycles for the stay (which we definitely recommend). A flashlight at night is a must since it is very dark. The staff was friendly and helpful. Overall a perfect retreat in Akumal, we're planning our next visit already!

Comments about LocoGringo Yal Ku Cai Casita:
We absolutely loved the Casita. It's so charming and adorable and perfect for a couple looking for peace and quiet and privacy. The place was immaculately clean and fully equipped with just about everything you could possibly need. Kitchen was fully equipped with appliances, pots, pans, and utensils. Great for cooking. It has its own private porch with chairs for drinking your morning coffee or relaxing at night - all with a great view of the ocean. The pool area was also very well maintained.
There were very few cons about this place. One was that the casita had a small insect problem which was most noticeable in the evenings. I guess thats to be expected in a tropical environment and it wasn't to an alarming degree - but we did notice a lot of ants and these other flying ant things walking around and even a couple small lizards from time to time. The only other thing is that the casita is located at the far end of Akumal which makes getting to the main Akumal beach area a little difficult. Its quite a long walk if you don't have a car or a bike. Best bet is to rent bikes or a golf cart if you are going to stay here. It also gets pretty dark at night and there are no street lights so pretty much once it gets dark, you can't go anywhere by foot (Except for the restaurant Que Onda which is about 300 feet down the road and even then we needed a flashlight).
All in all, it was still a great bargain and we absolutely loved the Casita and Akumal.
The service was outstanding. All the way through the reservation process, the LG staff was very helpful in answering my questions when trying to decide on a property and responded to my e-mails very quickly. The whole reservation process was pretty seemless and easy.
Once in Akumal, the Yal ku cai onsite staff were very friendly. Rosa, Jose and Humberto (maid and gardeners) were very friendly and even though they didn't speak much English were very nice and made us feel at home.
I had an issue the first day with the safe in the casita and I accidentally locked my things in it and couldn't open it with the combination I had put in. So after brunch, we walked to the main TSA office at Akumal Beach and the young lady Isela called Claudia, the property manager, who came right away and met us at the Casita and gave me the key to the safe. She let me keep it just so I wouldn't have to worry about that again.
Claudia was also very friendly and welcoming. One of the days, my boyfriend and me were walking down Akumal road sweating our behinds off and she happened to be driving by and gave us a ride to the TSA office which was very nice of her.
We loooooooved Akumal and will definitely return.

We only stayed 2 nights but would have preferred to stay there longer. Not on the beach but close enough to the Ocean.
