Comments about LocoGringo Grand Palladium Royal Suites Yucatan:

My girlfriend and I just returned from a one week stay (April 23 - April 30, 2011) at the Grand Palladium Royal Suites. We read a lot of reviews and information on the different areas of the resort and decided to spend the extra money for the Royal Suites because of all the extra amenities that come with this section of the resort. Two of our main concerns in selecting a resort are that it has to be all inclusive and adults only.

The Royal Suites are amazing. When we were dropped off at the lobby door we walked right up to the check in counter and were checked in without any wait. As the lady was going over a map of the facility and explaining where everything is located the bartender (Jose Luis, he is one of the best bartenders they have) came over and gave us a martini without us even asking for it. Although we were there a couple hours before check in time we were immediately taken to our bungalow. The deck of our bungalow faced the forest which gave us extreme privacy. There were 2 lounge chairs, a table and a hammock on the deck and a canoe tied to the deck that we took for a leisurely row around the lake. It also had an outdoor Mayan shower that we enjoyed extremely.
We have stayed at a lot of resorts in Mexico and I don't believe we have ever had a more soft and comfortable bed. The room has a bar area which houses the coffee maker, coffee, sugar/creamer, cups with saucers, spoons and the refrigerator. There are 750 ml bottles of Vodka, Whiskey, Rum and Tequila that are for your consumption at no additional cost. The refrigerator is stocked with bottles of water, soft drinks, snacks and 3 different types of beer. The refrigerator was re-stocked daily.

The Royal Suites is adults only (18 and above) and has a private pool, 2 bars and an a la carte restaurant. The pool area has plenty of tables with chairs, loungers and beds. The pool area was very quiet and relaxing. The bars stocked premium liquor which to my surprise included Jagermeister which isn't normal at an all inclusive resort.
We always ate at the main buffet for breakfast and then took our PC and iPad to the Royal Suites lobby to upload pictures, check email etc. There are also 2 PC's in the lobby for general use and you seldom had to wait to use one. The pool is close enough to the lobby area that we managed to get wi-fi service all around the pool area. While we were at the lobby we always made a reservation for an a la carte restaurant for that night since they closed down advance reservations at 1:00pm. We ate at the Japanese, Asian, American (Ribs and More), Brazilian, Mexican and El Jardin (Royal Suites) restaurants. For lunch we would eat at either the beach snack bar or one of the main buffets.

The food at the buffets was always very diverse and extremely good and hot. They were always making custom omelets and fried eggs. We also had mimosas for breakfast every morning at the buffet. We tried the breakfast buffet at the El Jardin one morning and although the atmosphere was very elegant the selection was much more limited than the main buffet. Food at every one of the a la carte restaurants that we tried was excellent and with advance reservations we were seated almost immediately when we got there. I did notice that if you didn't have reservations the wait was extremely long.

The grounds were beautiful and very well maintained. It was a joy to see all the iguanas and lizards running around everywhere. The staff worked continually to keep it that way.

The resort is huge and if you walk it can take a long time, however, with the number of trains, trams and golf carts available we never had to wait very long to get anywhere and believe me in that heat we didn't walk very much. One of the great benefits of the Royal Suites is the private golf carts. Any time we were at one of the resorts and needed a ride back to our room/resort all we had to do was talk to the bellman and we would get a private ride.

The beach is fantastic. We have been to Grand Cayman which has some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen and the white sand at this beach reminds me of there. Some parts of the beach are rocky but you could usually walk 15 feet down the beach and there would be no rocks at all. The water was very clear and there were always dozens of people snorkeling. We never had a problem finding a couple of lounge chairs.

My only complaint about the resort is that all of the a la carte restaurants, with the exception of the el Jardin, are extremely hot, not warm, hot! It varies by restaurant, the Brazilian was warm but the Mexican was almost unbearable. I realize this is Mexico and the temperature was in the 90's every day but there should be some way to cool these restaurants down to a comfortable level.

I would highly recommend this resort and suggest that you consider the Royal Suites. It was a great experience and we definitely plan on going back.
