Long story short....second time here, it has declined since our first visit. Beds hard, rooms moldy, ac not cold enough, staff lies and charges you for Club Premium then say they are overbooked (but the guy checking in next to us just yelled his way into getting it!). Managers non existent and hide away from problems. Spring break crowd not controlled, restaurants always booked but is half empty all the time? Charge for wifi is crazy! Feels like no one cares about you...unless you tip them. Lied to over and over again (si, we bring yiu more towels, si, you can have this for free.....si, si, si......see? You are lying again!) The beach is amazing though and cleaning staff friendly (although inconsistent).
Bottom line- take all reviews into consideration, not just the good or not just the bad. Do your homework and get everything in writing beforehand. You can't please everyone all the time but while staying this time, we encountered many, many people with issues this trip.

This resort is so amazing. I have stayed at many an all inclusive in the caribbean and they have all been nice but Barcelo Maya Palace stands out as the best thus far.
The Palace is much more low key than the adjoining Barcelo Resorts, which was perfect for my girl friend and I. We are both older and have been put off by the constant partying and general loudness at other resorts. The Palace however was classy, refined and very romantic. The pools and adjoining bars all shut down at 7 P.M. leaving you to only hear the sound of waves crashing. Perfect for two people in love. Once the pools have closed, couples and familys alike make their way to dinner or the lobby bar (which sports a beautiful view of the ocean), all dressed up in slacks, and summer dresses. The dress code requirement for a' la carte dining further added to the upscale ambiance of the resort.
The food was fantastic in the a' la carte's and the buffet's as well. The room was spectacular and very clean throughout our stay.
The pools are abundant with plenty of seating for all, provided you get there early enough. Unfortunately, other guests didn't respect the "No Reserving" chairs or cabana's policy so in order for us to get a good spot, we would have to get up pretty early.

Great place, clean and great for everyone. If you wanted to do something you can always find something or if you want to relax you could always find a nice quiet place.

Everything at the palace was outstanding! Our room was a little far from the beach-trouble with a 6yr-4-2yr olds getting everyone to the beach in a timely manner.
food was great, we didn't do a la carte with our entourage, but the buffet was excellent-lots of choices

This Resort is NOT handicap accommodating. They refused to accommodate my mother on either a first level room or by an elevator. She had hip and knee replacements and climbing 3 flights of stairs was not feasible, but they didn't seem to care. DO NOT PLAN YOUR WEDDING HERE either. The coordinating was POOR and they did not communicate well with information or answering questions. Hindsight is 20/20 on this one! I will never return!
