My family recently stayed a week at Maya Beach. It's a beautiful site, great beach and grounds. The staff is wonderful and attentive. The pools are large and clean, and there are activities for all ages. The buffet meals are great fun, many choices and it was easy to feed even picky eaters. However, the food is not the greatest. It's just okay. The grounds, lobby, and all places to eat were lovely, but our rooms were not the cleanest. Even after tipping the maid generously our bath and floor were not cleaned thoroughly on most days. This resort is fun, a great deal, and I would probably go again for a family vacation. I gave 4 stars overall, but the food is 3 stars.

We've been going to Barcelo for 6 years - we've stayed at the Beach and Tropical sections. We usually go towards the end of September. Each stay, the resort has exceeded our expectations. The beach, the grounds, the food, the accommodations, and ESPECIALLY the snorkeling, is absolutely wonderful. The prices are great, too. The resort is large enough so that you can take long walks - along the beach or throughout the grounds - without getting bored. Or, you can take a short, quick walk from your room to the beach and spend the day there. We've never done the ala carte dining (not our thing when we're on vacation), but the buffets have a wide variety of great food, and it's always fresh and hot. All of the staff - in the dining areas, around the grounds, housekeeping - are eager to please and very friendly.
